Hey. I was wondering if anybody wanted to start a Showdown game. Basically you make a list of the episodes, break them off into groups, and in each group, you choose between two episodes. There are several rounds of voting, each lasting 24 hours (or longer if people prefer), until in the end you are left with the best episode of your chosen category.

For a first game I figured we could do best over-all episode and after that move on to best episodes for certain characters i.e. best Tommy episode, best Merton episode, etc.

Does anybody want to play?

Before we start I'm going to have a sudden death between the two clip-show episodes because 64 is an easier number to work with than 65.

SO:

Which is a better episode?

Kiss of Death

OR

Sum of All Fears

I liked Clip Show: Kiss of Death, but Sum of All Fears had a gag reel, so I've gotta go with that one.

I'd like to play, but I'm still not quite sure how.

You'll get the gist once we get going, I promise. I'll give everyone another day to pick which clip show they prefer, then start the first group of voting.

Okay. Here's the master list of episodes broken down into groups of eight, with titles that start with "the" gouped together in the "t" section in order of the second word. I did that mostly to avoid having The Manchurian Werewolf and Manchu Part Deux having to face off right away:

101 Damnations
Anti-Claus Is Coming To Town
Apocalypse Soon
Baby On Board
Being Tommy Dawkins
Big Bad Wolf
Blame It On The Haim
Butch Comes To Shove

Butch Is Back
Cat Woman
Commie Dawkins
Dances Without Wolves
Don't Fear The Reaper
Everybody Fang Chung Tonight
Faltered States
Fangs For The Memories

Fear And Loathing In Pleasantville
Flügelhoff!
Frank Stein
Game Over
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Hellection
Hello Nasty
I Dream Of Becky

Imaginary Fiend
Interview With A Werewolf
Invisible Merton
Manchu: Part Deux
Mind Over Merton
Mr. Roboto
Muffy the Werewolf Slayer
N'Sipid

Pilot
Play It Again, Samurai
Pleased To Eat You
Rob: Zombie
Save The Last Trance
Scary Terri
She Will, She Will Rock You
Stage Fright

Stalk Like An Egyptian
Stone Free
Stormy Weather
Switch Me Baby One More Time
Thanks
That Swamp Thing You Do!
The Bookmobile
The Boy Who Tried Wolf

The Exor-Sis
The Geek Shall Inherit The Earth
The Girl Who Spied Wolf
The Manchurian Werewolf
The Mertonator
The Pleasantville Strangler
The Sandman Cometh
The Sum Of All Fears

The Wolf Is Out There
There's Something About Lori
Time And Again
Very Pale Rider
Voodoo Child
What's The Story, Mourning Corey
What's Vlud Got To Do With It?
Witch College

Here's The first part of Round 1 for the category of "best over-all episode".

Which do you prefer?:

101 Damnations
OR
Anti-Claus Is Coming To Town

Apocalypse Soon
OR
Baby On Board

Being Tommy Dawkins
OR
Big Bad Wolf

Blame It On The Haim
OR
Butch Comes To Shove

I'll give everyone a week to vote.

Normally I'd go last since I'm running the game, but this time I'll go first to give everyone a clearer idea of how it works.

My picks:

101 Damnations
Baby On Board
Big Bad Wolf
Butch Comes To Shove

Okay, let's see...

101 Damnations-Because it was more original.

Apocalypse Soon-Because as much as I disliked it, nothing will make me vote for Baby on Board.

Big Bad Wolf- It's one of my favorites.

Blame It On The Haim- Also one of my favorites.

Results!

101 Damnations burned Anti-Claus Is Coming To Town to a crisp in a 4-0 shutout.

Apocalypse Soon couldn't quite bring about the end of Baby On Board in a 2-2 tie.

Same for Being Tommy Dawkins and Big Bad Wolf. Another 2-2 tie.

Blame It On The Haim sucked the life out of Butch Comes To Shove in a 3-1 win.

Before the next set of episodes there'll be a 24 hour sudden death tie breaker for:

Apocalypse Soon
VS
Baby On Board

and

Being Tommy Dawkins
VS
Big Bad Wolf

Cast your vote!

BTW if you haven't played as of yet you can still start at any time during the whole game.

All right.

Apocalypse Soon ended Baby On Board's world: 3-2.

and Big Bad Wolf punched Being Tommy Dawkins in the face: 3-2.

Time for the second set of episodes. From now on I'm going to make the deadline three days since everyone who voted last time did so in the first 72 hours.

Voting time!

Butch Is Back
VS
Cat Woman

Commie Dawkins
VS
Dances Without Wolves

Don't Fear The Reaper
VS
Everybody Fang Chung Tonight

Faltered States
VS
Fangs For The Memories

Have fun!

Cat Woman- This was a hard decision, but had to go with this one.

Dances Without Wolves- C'mon, alternate universes rock.

Everybody Fang Chung Tonight- Arguably the best of season three. Also, yay for a romance where the chick wasn't trying to kill Merton!

Fangs For The Memories- One of my favorites from season one.

Good thing my choices were the same as yours this time, Spooka Looka.

Cat Woman- Butch is Back is cute, but Cat Woman is quintessential Season 1 fun. Plus Stacey gets to fight for once.

Dances Without Wolves- Commie Dawkins is a fun episode but DWW may be one of the best episodes of the whole series.

Everybody Fang Chung Tonight- I really like Don't Fear The Reaper, it's one of my favorite Seson 1 episodes, but Cassandra, Goth!Tommy Vamp!Merton, Merton's decision, and the cameo at the end just barely beat it.

Fangs For The Memories-There are a lot of Merton-is-changed-into-something episodes and while Faltered States does get points just for the running joke about his "wad", FFTM is overall a better and more unique episode.

Which means:

Cat Woman scratched Butch Is Back's eyes out: 2-0

Dances Without Wolves told Commie Dawkins to "talk to the hand": 2-0

Everybody Fang Chung Tonight did not fear Don't Fear The Reaper at: 2-0

And Fangs For The Memories made Faltered States bite it: 2-0

New match-ups:

Fear And Loathing In Pleasantville
VS
Flügelhoff!

Frank Stein
VS
Game Over

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
VS
Hellection

Hello Nasty
VS
I Dream Of Becky

Remember, you have the next three days to vote!

Flügelhoff!- Great for character interaction, especially Tommy and Stacey.

Frank Stein- Actually, both of the episodes are on the same level of suck for me, but this one had Lori. That's basically the only reason I picked it.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow- "Sorry about betting your life in that lightsaber battle back there, man." "It happens. Not to normal people, but it happens."

Hello Nasty- Absence of flambouyant purple genie? Check.

Is it too late to jump on this bandwagon? I hope not : D

Flugelhoff - One of my favorites from season 1!
Game Over
Hair Today, Gona Tomorrow - Loved Tommy as MJ, that was classic.

Nope, the bandwagon will remain jumpable for the duration of the game.

My choices:

Flügelhoff!-Fear & Loathing was a good episode but Flügelhoff! has quality Tommy/Merton Friendship and Tommy/Stacey romance. Not to mention the great foreshadowing of the professor's appearence in earlier episodes.

Game Over-Not a fan of the early Lori episodes. Plus there's the sweet "Tommy...you're the only person who's ever made me feel like I was really alive!" speach by Merton.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow-I love that we got to meet the wolf who bit Tommy. And the costumes for the 80's dance were priceless.

I Dream Of Becky-Again, not fond of the first few Season 2 epps. I also enjoyed seeing Becky's crush on Tommy play out. And Merton's dream was pretty funny too.

Totals:

Flügelhoff! gave Fear And Loathing In Pleasantville a lethal injection: 3-1

Frank Stein lost all its lives to Game Over: 3-1

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow showed Hellection who was the real alpha episode: 4-0

Hello Nasty didn't manage to tackle I Dream Of Becky in a 2-2 tie.

This means there will be a 24 hour sudden-death before we start the next set of episodes.

So which episode sucks the least:

Hello Nasty
OR
I Dream Of Becky

I Dream Of Becky on the bench permanently in a 5-3 win.

Interview With A Werewolf

Invisible Merton
VS
Manchu: Part Deux

Mind Over Merton

Imaginary Fiend - who can compete?

Manchu: Part Deux - gotta love the Manchu two-parter.

Mind Over Merton - intelligent T&T is actually lots of fun.

Muffy the Werewolf Slayer - they both failed, but I'll give Muffy points for the parody.

Imaginary Fiend- Definitely gets my vote. The episode was just fun, and even better than the movie it was parodying in my opinion.

Manchu: Part Deux- This is my favorite episode of the whole series, if not just for kick-ass werewolf Lori. It was also nice to see an episode that was mostly serious.

Mind Over Merton- Both episodes are kind of on the same level for me. They aren't bad, just not sticking out one or the other. This one has great character interaction with Tommy and Lori though.

Muffy the Werewolf Slayer- Kudos for the boyband thing, but this one was better made. Could've done without the soul-sucker plot though.

Invisible Merton (this one was really, really close; they're such different episodes, but "Invisible Merton" is such a favorite)

Mind Over Merton

Sorry about being a day behind but Thanksgiving messed with my schedule.

My picks:

I do like Interview With A Werewolf a lot but I have to give it to Imaginary Fiend.

Once again, Invisible Merton is fun but I'm going to go with Manchu: Part Deux for having some actual gravitas.

Mind Over Merton easily outshines Mr. Roboto for the same reason.

As a BTVS fan I had to put in a vote for Muffy the Werewolf Slayer.

Overall Results:

It was Imaginary Fiend! In the Showdown! With the votes! (that beat Interview With A Werewolf): 7-1

Like Lori and the Leader, Manchu: Part Deux challenged Invisible Merton for the top spot and won: 5-3

Mind Over Merton proved itself smarter than
Mr. Roboto: 5-3

And Muffy clearly slayed N'Sipid: 7-1

The next match-ups are:

Pilot (aka the first episode)
VS
Play It Again, Samurai

Pleased To Eat You
VS
Rob: Zombie

Save The Last Trance
VS
Scary Terri

She Will, She Will Rock You
VS
Stage Fright

Have fun voting!

Pilot- No contest.

Rob: Zombie- I loved the Chunky and Funky dance, but this is one of my favorites.

Scary Terri- This one was awesome. Loved the dance.

She Will, She Will Rock You- More character development, and also the dream sequence. Ha ha!
